PART 1 - The "What were you like in the 90s?" question has been floating around for some time now, and Melissa Auf der Maur's memoir, Even The Good Girls Will Cry, flooded me with memories of my indie roots, with visceral prompts of the era in which I came into adulthood. The book is a celebration of early-mid 90s rock music and culture and reads like a candid peek into her musical and personal life during that time. Though we've never met, it felt like reading a friend's journal, deeply personal with familiar through lines and themes as a mystical, creative introvert. Melissa vividly depicts the lunacy of a musician's life, the all-consuming grief surrounding her band Hole and her experiences as a woman in rock (more on that in PART 2!). Highly recommend!
